Someone recently asked me how I have so much energy.

The truth? I don’t (I’m really tired!). But I do try to make time for the parts of my life that give me energy.

For some people, that looks like a spa day or a vacation. For me, it’s painting a room, hanging wallpaper, or organizing a closet. It’s hands-on, a little messy, and oddly satisfying. It wakes up a part of my brain that often gets buried under the emails and checklists.

And the best part is, when I carve out time for a creative project, everything else ends up running a little smoother.

Did you know that using pure black text can actually make your website harder to read?

I know, #000000 seems like the obvious choice when you want text to be crisp and bold, but sometimes it can actually feel a bit too harsh – especially on a bright white background. Your website should feel inviting and easy on the eyes, not like a strain to read.

Here’s a little designer secret: Try swapping out pure black for a softer dark grey. Shades like #333333, #2C2C2C, or #1A1A1A still give that sophisticated, modern look but with a bit more warmth and comfort.

Looking for a little bit of personality? Go for deep, rich hues that speak to your style while keeping things professional and elevated. Some of my favorites are dark navy (#1A2A44) for a classic touch, rich espresso brown (#2B1B0E) for a warm, grounded feel, or deep forest green (#0B3D2E) for a subtle, luxe vibe.

Adjusting your main text color is a subtle difference that makes your text feel more approachable and your site more polished.

When it comes to web design, it’s all about the little details that elevate the whole experience. So, next time you’re updating your website, think beyond black! Your eyes (and your audience) will thank you.
